Our Mission

To create and support opportunities for individuals and families to connect, participate and contribute to the betterment of community.

Our Background

The Sesheme Foundation was formed in honor of the late Mrs Victoria Okine.

Victoria Sesheme Okine Like many immigrant families, she and her husband came to Canada as a young family with one child and soon had another on the way. They dreamed of working hard, opening a business, seeing their children through school and returning home to Ghana to enjoy their golden years. A very driven and hard working woman, time could always wait. Work hard now, enjoy later was her way. After 25 years it was finally time for her to rest and start a new chapter in life - retirement. After a few months at home, she realized just much her children had grown and how much she didn't know about their lives. It was then that her children really started to get to know how much their mother had contributed to the lives of countless others. After 3 short months at home with her family she suddenly passed away in August 2001.

Because of who she was, her family never suffered in silence. They were wrapped in the care and support of all those who knew and loved her for the weeks and months which followed. The Okine family is forever grateful. Thanks to her we understand the value of our culture and heritage. We understand that no matter happens we will always have the support of the community to nurture and help us heal and that we have a duty to provide the same to those around us.

In her memory Sesheme Foundation was formed to reposition the importance of family as community and the need for everyone to regain a sense of responsibility for themselves and their neighbours. In doing so the Foundation will create and support opportunities to bring families together to share, learn and support each other.

Vision

To see all residents society share a common sense of community roots in cultural preservation, respect for eldership and an enhanced sense of responsibility for one another and our children.
